David C. Wilson is an electrical engineer by training and adjunct mathematics professor—now retired. He is a statistical consultant, local history researcher, author, and self-publisher.
After graduating from the former Chestnut Consolidated High School (SC), Wilson served three years in the United States Army as a communications center specialist. After his discharge from the Army, he pursued a mathematics-centered career. Consequently, Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York, followed by a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan University (New York).
Working primarily in the areas of product development, quality, and reliability, Wilson’s industry experience spans three decades. He has worked with multinationals such as General Electric, IBM, and Honeywell, where, in addition to performing his responsibilities, Wilson has remained committed to pursuing his passion for academia.
Hence, during his career he served one year in IBM Faculty Loan Program and as an adjunct professor. His academic experience as adjunct professor spans over 25 years, teaching engineering technology, mathematics, and statistics at Dutchess Community College (NY), Quinnipiac University (CT), and Horry Georgetown Technical College (SC). In addition, after retiring from engineering, he worked as a substitute teacher in Horry County Schools for two years.
With industry and academic experience spanning over three decades, Wilson retired to found and lead Wilson Consulting Services, LLC. His areas of interest include cause and effect analysis, problem resolution, statistical analysis, mathematics education, quantitative literacy, and family history research.
A former reader for the College Board/AP Statistics Program and program evaluator for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology/Technology Accreditation Commission (ABET/TAC), Wilson is currently a senior member of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the American Society for Quality (ASQ), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Wilson believes in contributing to his community. He founded and served as coordinator of a tutorial and enrichment program known as PREMISE in Poughkeepsie, NY, and he has contributed as junior achievement instructor, Cub Scout troop, and a science fair judge, and as a mathematics and science tutor for high school and middle school students.
Wilson and his wife, Beverly, live in South Carolina, and spend time with their six grandchildren, two sons, and their families.
